WHen should I schedule my tax return review?
This year we’re pre-scheduling our tax return reviews so you can know when you’ll need to provide your info, and when you can expect your returns to be completed.
*Update as of 3/27 we have sent a separate email to anyone who hasn’t scheduled yet with our recommended week of completion. Check your emails from Ben to schedule rather than using the link below
This video covers the important topics, but if you’d rather read, see the TL:DR below
Tax returns review spots are available on a first come, first choice basis!
You will need to have all of your documents to us no later than 3 weeks before your call! (But we’ll take them sooner if you have them)
We will be scheduling calls from February through October
If you are scheduling after 4/15 (or 3/15 if you have a pass through entity), we will separately follow up to advise you of the actions to take with your extension.
If you select a spot before 4/15 and fail to keep your appointment because you did not submit your documents on time, you will be charged a rescheduling fee
And now the FAQ’s of scheduling!
Can’t I just send you my stuff? Why do I need to schedule? In the past we’ve asked clients to send us their stuff whenever it was ready, however that resulted in about 75% of our clients getting us their info at the exact same time, all with the expectation that we’d get it done before the April deadline. That’s the way the industry has always worked, and it’s not good for anyone involved.
This year, we’re pre-scheduling our work queue so that when you submit your documents, you can know exactly when we’ll be looking at your info, when to expect questions, and when to expect your completed returns. We think this is a big upgrade over the way the industry has always run, and we’re looking forward to working that way with you this year!
I don’t see the time I want available to schedule, what should I do? Please select the next best time available. We’ve planned our work queue carefully this year and all of our availability is currently reflected in that scheduler.
My appointment isn’t until after April 15th, how will I know what to pay for the due date? Check your fall tax plan! One of the many reasons we made fall planning an important part of our new way of working is so that you know what to expect and when. For clients that are scheduled after 4/15, we’ll be following up with a more specific walkthrough on the extension process, but for now, plan on taking the actions recommended in your fall planning document.
I need my tax return done ASAP for an urgent reason! (Mortgage, FAFSA, Court, etc) Great, we’d recommend you schedule ASAP and select one of the earlier slots available, get us your documents in a single organized batch, and keep an eye out for follow up questions from our team. If we get all of that, we’ll complete your return by your appointment.
Will you remind me when I need to get my documents in for my appointment? Yes! in addition to adding this to your calendar, there are also a series of automated reminders for when you should get your info in, when to check for Q’s from the team, and when to review your plan ahead of the call.
What if I need to reschedule? We’d like you to carefully consider whether you can get us all of your documents 3 weeks ahead of the call so that we can keep our promise to you of getting your returns done, but if something happens and you need to reschedule, you’ll need to pick a new spot from our available times, which could be further out in the future.
Clients that select a time spot in February, March or April, and fail to keep their appointment because they were unprepared will be charged a rescheduling fee of 50% of their tax return fee.
