We’re growing, and so should you.
Our clients are some of the coolest and most interesting people on the planet, and we’re looking for team members to not only help them file taxes, but to guide them on the path of entrepreneurship with enthusiasm and compassion.
What positions are we looking for right now?
CPA/EA tax preparer and relationship manager: We’re looking for someone with experience preparing individual and small business tax returns to join our team in our tax department! Ideally this is someone with at least 3-5 tax seasons experience who is comfortable with client communications and would like to grow their expertise. This is a full time salaried role with an expected 40 hour work week most times during the year, and after the first year this role is eligible for bonuses based on the total billings managed.
Who should apply? - We’re always interested in meeting new people, but we’re also looking to make sure we only move forward with candidates that are likely to be successful in our organization. Below are the things we look for in our teammates. Take a look and see if this sounds like you before applying.
Soft skills:
Kindness and compassion - Many of our clients are new on their journey of entrepreneurship, so you may find yourself answering the same questions multiple times, clients forgetting to pay estimates and needing clarification on things, and getting easily overwhelmed with discussions around numbers. If that sounds frustrating, this is not the role for you.
Emotive emailer - We’ve seen plenty of cases where email can feel cold and transactional. Your ability to brighten up an exchange about taxes and sense when an email should escalated to a call is important to working with our style of clients.
Technical Skills:
3-5 years of tax preparation experience required, with an emphasis on small business returns (schedule C, S-corps and partnerships)
CPA or EA required
NY, CA, MA and OR experience a plus
Client facing experience a big plus
Experience working in a remote environment, including tools like google meet, zoom, dropbox, google suite, password management, 2 factor authentication and basic internet security common sense.
What you can expect from us
Help with tools & process - We use Intuit Tax Online, Intuit practice management, Dropbox, Quickbooks online, Gusto, and generally we use Macs. Obviously experience with any or all of these tools is preferred, but we’d be happy to help get the right candidate up to speed.
Support to grow your technical skills - We believe strongly in helping our staff grow. While we will require a base level of competence in the things we do, we also fully expect to be teaching you new things on the job and rounding out any areas where it’s needed.
Developing Specialties - We encourage each of our staff to develop a mastery of some area of our practice, and be the leader for the rest of the team in those areas. We’ll fully support taking business time to research, and pay for continuing education for skillsets that enhance what we can offer our clients.
Flexible work hours - We have a team meeting at noon ET on Tuesdays and prescheduled one-on-one’s to train and support. Other than that, we trust you to make responsible decisions around when and how you manage your workload.
Scalable pay - Our professional staff are compensated with a base salary and after the first year, a bonus that is based on a % of their billings, so you’ll have the flexibility to scale up or down as your life requires. Our support staff are typically compensated on a fixed or hourly basis, commensurate with the role and responsibilities.
