I’m ready to start planning!

Welcome to fall planning season, It’s kinda like “Pumpkin spice” tax season. We think you’ll like it.

Wondering what’s next? Here’s a quick recap of the process:

  • Fill out the survey - This will help us catch any changes compared with your last year’s info, and may help you identify additional documents we haven’t asked for yet.

  • Send us your Docs via the provided dropbox link- In the email we just sent you is a customized list of documents we’ll need from you to prepare your tax plan, and the survey may have sparked a few more things based on the changes you’ve had this year. Please upload to the link we provided and if you have questions on what we’re asking for please let us know ASAP!

  • Book your review call - Once you’ve completed this survey, please find the link below at the bottom of this page. Not sure when the best time to review the plan is? Below is more info on how to pick the best time for you.

  • Watch out for emails from us - We’ll be sending both reminders for when your call is, and questions to help us prepare your plan. Please be sure to reply promptly so we can keep our call schedule.

  • Review your plan before our call - We’ll be sending you a PDF of the plan a few days before your scheduled call, and will have put a lot of work into making it easy to read and understand. Please review it and send any questions in advance so we can make the best use of our time together.

When should I schedule my planning review call?

As soon as you feel you’re ready! These calls will be booked on a “first come first choice” basis, but how do you know when the best time to book it is? Here’s a few things you should consider before booking:

  • How soon can you be ready? We’re going to be requesting a bit of documentation from you to do this work. Look over the document request list and complete the survey, do you think you will have all of this info no later than two weeks before your call (or sooner!)? if not, then your call will need to be later in the season.

  • Are my books up to date? Along with the above, if you know you’ll need help with your bookkeeping to be ready, reach out to us ASAP as our availability to assist with bookkeeping will be filling up fast.

  • Is there some big event I’m waiting on? Sometimes you’ll have a large financial event you’re waiting on, like a big client that you’re not sure if will land, a big year end bonus at work, or something else that is a big piece of uncertainty. If that’s the case, we may want to wait until we have more clarity around that before booking.

  • But Ben, I have no idea what my income for the rest of the year will be! I hear this a lot, but I’m calling you out here, that’s a lie. While yes, there’s always a level of uncertainty about the future, we can usually come up with a rough idea. If you’re really not sure, put a range to it (e.g. I expect to make an extra 20-40K this year, depending on if X happens). Don’t let what you don’t know stop you from using what you do know :)

  • Do I have an S-corporation? For S-corps where this is their first year running payroll, we’ll want to schedule as soon as we can, but no later than the end of November. For all other S-corps, we’ll want to schedule no later than December 15th.

But Ben, what if I book and then need to reschedule?

Please be as careful and thoughtful as you can in booking your planning review call. We’re expecting to have very tight availability as we prepare these plans, responsibly offboard the clients we’re no longer working with, and upend the way accounting firms run. If you need to reschedule because you are unprepared, we will be charging a reschedule fee of 50% of the planning fee to book a new call, and/or your plan will be communicated solely via email at our discretion.

OK I understand, I'm ready to book my review call!

Also, we’ve provided many appointment spots over a 2+ month timeline, but these calls are first come first choice so if you’ve take a while to get this scheduled and can’t find a time that works, your plan will be communicated via email only.
